MLK Day in SMTX with DHA

DHA is ready to celebrate the 2025 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The event will begin at the LBJ/MLK Crossroads Memorial at 9:30 a.m. in San Marcos, TX, on January 20, 2025. The day’s events will proceed as follows.

  • Wreath-laying Ceremony at the Crossroads Memorial 9:30 a.m.
  • Followed by a silent walk to the Hays County Courthouse Square
  • Keynote address and brief program on the square.
    • Keynote speaker: Mr. Ralph Merriweather
  • Culminating in a reception at the Dunbar Recreation Center with free food and music.

DHA Hosts a Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration!

This year, the Dunbar Heritage Association will host a pre-Kwanzaa celebration. Kwanzaa is a non-religious, cultural holiday that focuses on family, community, and culture. Kwanzaa is modeled after the first harvest celebrations in Africa, and the meaning of the name Kwanzaa comes from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means the “first fruits” of the harvest. The annual celebration takes place from December 26 thru January 1.
