Mr. Harvey E. Miller, the “Good Looking Fella”

November 4, 1929- Born in Georgetown, Tx

1948- Married his long-time sweetheart Ara Belle Jefferson and would later have four girls. 

1948- Graduated Carver High School and attended Austin Community College for a year

1958- Mr. Miller and a group of black leaders from the Georgetown community requested the Georgetown School board to build a new school

1962- Led the fight for racial integration in the Georgetown ISD and in 1967, Georgetown schools agreed to full racial integration

1966- Moved to San Marcos, Texas and sometime later headed a committee to make the old Dunbar school, which was closed as a result of integration, into a park and recreation center. 

1978Helped organized the revival of the Juneteenth Festival in San Marcos with a Miss Juneteenth pageant & BBQ cook-off.

1999- Organized the Dunbar Heritage Association

2012-2014- Mr. Miller was an active member of the MLK/LBJ Crossroads Memorial with Texas State University, The City of San Marcos, and members from the community.

2013- Received the Trailblazer award as part of the Crossroads celebration

2019- Received 2019 San Marcos Community Senior Citizen Volunteer Award

September 1, 2020- Deacon Harvey Miller, age 90, went to be with the Lord. He passed away peacefully in his San Marcos home surrounded by family and friends.
