The Dunbar Heritage Association (DHA), in collaboration with the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Dept., hosted the inaugural Harvey Miller Day of Service to be held the first Saturday in November!
Harvey Miller, “The Good-Lookin’ Fella,” dedicated 54 years of his life in service to the San Marcos community. He was the first parks director for the Dunbar Recreation Center and was known for collecting and recycling cans in City Park. He was the 2008 recipient of the “Spirit of San Marcos Award,” and named “Outstanding Senior Volunteer” by The San Marcos Senior Citizen Advisory Board in 2019. In recognition of his life-long commitment to service, DHA will host an annual day of service to invite the city to be active participants in the community in which they live!
The first Harvey Miller Day of Service, featured a clean-up day in the Historic Dunbar Neighborhood. We were also fortunate to have Sarah K. Smith, Mrs. Gulf Coast Earth, lend a hand in the clean up and provide remarks during the reception about environmental racism and the importance of caring for our communities (click here to view Sarah’s comments). Each year, the Harvey Miller Day of Service will seek out various opportunities to serve the greater San Marcos Community.
